CHAMARAJANAGAR: Heavy rain, that lashed throughout Hanur taluk on Sunday night, has caused immense damage with a check dam and part of a house being washed away while electricity poles and banana plantations were destroyed.
Due to the heavy rain, water flow increased in stream of Vaishampalyam village and a house was partly washed away after a wall of house belonging to one Ramaswamy collapsed. During rain water suddenly increased in stream and entered house. Fortunately those in house came out safely, and there was no loss of life. But groceries, clothes, vessels including many items in house were washed away in water and the family is in distress.
A check dam was washed away due to heavy rain at Lazar Doddi of Hanur and the stones installed for check dam collapsed due to force of water. The check dam was built about 12 years ago and was helpful for irrigation in this region. Locals have requested that a new check dam be built.
Electricity poles fell to the ground at Ramapura of Hanur taluk due to rain and wind, but fortunately, there was no loss of lives as it was night time. The CESC staff worked to clear trees and restore power supply.
Banana plantations were damaged on some farms due to heavy wind and rain at Chikka Mole village of Chamarajanagar taluk. More than one thousand banana plants were destroyed causing huge losses to three farmers.
