Police constable among 8 held for thefts, gold worth Rs 37 lakh seized

MANDYA: The Mandya and Maddur police, in a joint operation, have arrested a gang of eight thieves, including a police constable, which targeted locked houses.

The arrested are constable Kendaganna, attached to the Koppa police station, and Nayaz Ahmed, Mohammed Sadat, Mohammed Munna, Syed Ayub, Prasad and Girish from Mysuru.

The gang was involved in thefts in Mandya, Maddur, Srirangapatna, Mysuru South, VV Puram and KR Nagar and 650 gm of gold worth Rs 37 lakh has been seized from them. The gang would steal valuables and get them sold through the police constable.

The arrested constable has been placed under suspension. It is said that he teamed up with the thieves in his greed for money.
