BENGALURU: An online delivery agent was killed in a hit-and-run accident at Sahakara Nagar on May 19 under Hebbal traffic police limits.

The parents and friends had alleged that it was a hit-and-run case, but it was established 10 days after the accident. The deceased has been identified as Yesuraj (20), a native of Yadgir.

The driver of the car had escaped soon after the accident. The victim’s family and friends had gathered in large numbers in front of Ambedkar Hospital, demanding the arrest of the car driver and to present him before them.

Yesuraj was working as an online delivery agent. On May 19, a Mahindra XUV (KA 50-EJ 9951) which was speeding, knocked down Yesuraj around 9 am on the road near Eco Bank on 8th main road, Sahakar Nagar. The car driver himself took the injured to a local hospital and then shifted him to Ambedkar hospital claiming that he knew doctors there. Soon after that, the car driver escaped and Yesuraj died without responding to treatment.

The Hebbal traffic police had traced the car driver, but he escaped from the police station as the investigation started. The family members of Yesuraj were hesitant to file a complaint after the car driver assured the family that he would pay the hospital expenses, but no one contacted them later on.

The victim’s sister, Shobha, said that, the car driver promised that he would be with the family and take responsibility for the injured until his recovery. “He also promised that he would bear the  expenses of medical treatment. But, the car driver never returned after his admission. A complaint was lodged on May 22. The police told us that they registered an FIR against the car driver, but we don’t know about it”, she said.

The Hebbal traffic police are now on the lookout for the absconding car driver.
