Thermal power plant authorities file complaints after Public TV expose on coal theft

RAICHUR: Days after Public TV exposed the coal pilferage at the Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) and the Yermarus Thermal Power Station (YTPS), the authorities of the two power stations have lodged a complaint against the wagon cleaning contractor and the Yermarus railway station master.

The executive director of YTPS, Mahendra, has lodged a complaint with the Raichur Rural police station alleging that about 120 tons of coal worth about Rs 5 lakh, which was brought to YTPS from the Singareni coal fields had been stolen and stored illegally. The theft happened between October 19 and November 20, the complaint states.

The RTPS authorities have complained to the police seeking an investigation into the theft of coal that happened outside the power station at Yadlapur railway station. The move follows an investigation by a three-member team of the Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd.
