RAICHUR: The police have arrested one person for defacing a portrait of Tipu Sultan at Hazrat Tipu Sultan Circle in Sirwar with a garland of footwear on January 30. The arrested has been identified as Akash (23).
Muslim community members had staged a protest following the incident and had blocked the Raichur-Lingasugur road. Raichur SP Nikhil B had constituted to two teams to trace the accused.
The SP said the youth, who works as a mason, had committed the act in a drunken state and that he is not associated with any organisation. He was produced before a court which remanded him to judicial custody.
