K’taka buses stoned, defaced in Maha, services suspended temporarily

BELAGAVI, CHIKKODI: The NorthWest Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) has stopped plying buses to Maharashtra after another bus was stoned on the Miraj route on Friday night. On the suggestion of the district police, the transport corporation has suspended services to Maharashtra through the Kagwad border.

The NWKRTC has suspended bus services to Maharashtra.

The bus was coming from Pune to Athani when stones were pelted, damaging its windshield, between Miraj and Kagwad around 10.30 pm on Friday.

Meanwhile, the police are on high alert in Kagwad and one Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) platoon and one District Armed Reserve (DAR) platoon have been stationed there to prevent any untoward incidents.

Police are on high alert at the Kagwad border.

Maharashtra buses continue to ply between the two states as usual. Karnataka has suspended bus services as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, Additional Chief Secretary to the Home Department, Rajneesh Goel, on the CM’s instruction, dialled his Maharashtra counterpart and asked him to ensure the safety of Kannada-speaking people, properties and buses in that state.

This came after another bus was defaced by anti-social elements. Goel aslso asked for action to be taken against the culprits.
