BELAGAVI: After hundreds of accidents and dozens of deaths in the last 10 years, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is preparing to fix the design flaw on the National Highway near Badekolamath in Belagavi.
The stretch has witnessed back-to-back road accidents during the monsoon season involving lorries, buses, and goods vehicles. According to vehicle users, accidents occur due to the slope along with a dangerous curve on that section of the highway.
Belagavi City Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase collected information on the number of accidents and deaths in the last 10 years and wrote a letter to NHAI for road repairs in July 2025. More than 20 accidents have been reported again in just one year.
The NHAI has now floated a tender for road repairs and is taking precautionary measures on the National Highway curve by installing barricades using drums and human-shaped warning boards.
