Murder accused’s mother commits suicide at home, father dies of heart attack in jail

MYSURU: A murder accused lost both his parents in a strange twist of fate at Vidyanagar near Siddartha Layout here. While his mother committed suicide, his father died of a heart attack on coming to know about her death.

Samrat and his son Tejas were named as acused in the murder of Balraj. Following their arrest, Samrat’s wife Indrani committed suicide.

Last Saturday, a youth named Balraj was murdered by his friend Tejas and a few others over some financial dispute. The police had arrested four people including Tejas, the prime accused, and his father Samrat, the fourth accused, in connection with the murder from Bengaluru on Sunday.

Police commissioner Ramesh Bhanot told media persons that the accused Tejas, Sanjay, Kiran and Samrat were produced before a magistrate and sent to judicial custody. Apparently, shamed by the arrest of her husband and son, Samrat’s wife Indrani committed suicide at home by hanging on Monday.

On Tuesday, the father-son duo, who were in jail, came to know about his. When Samrat complained of chest pain, the jail authorities immediately shifted him to Jayadeva Hospital, but he died after suffering a heart attack, the police commissioner said.

Bhanot said that Samrat was present at the spot when his son Tejas stabbed Balraj to death. All the four accused had fled to Bengaluru after the murder.
