MANDYA: Parliament member Sumalatha Ambareesh, who announced her support for the BJP ahead of the Assembly election, on Friday sought apology from Congress workers during the election campaign in Nagamangala.

Speaking about her extending supporting to the BJP, she said, “I will apologise if Congress workers feel unhappy, or if they are hurt by my decision. But I am not responsible for the actions of Congress leaders”, she said emotionally.

Sumalatha was expressing her pain over the Congress, said, “Just go through the statements made by the KPCC president about me and then, you people can question my decision. Whereas the BJP invited me with great respect”.

Referring to the naming of Ambareesh Road by the BJP, said, “The BJP leaders asked me to support the party. They said it will strengthen them if I support the party. The BJP government has named a road after Ambaresh Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway. A beautiful memorial has been built at a cost of Rs 12 crore. Was Ambareesh in BJP?”, she questioned.

“Ambareesh had served the Congress for 27 years. Meanwhile, some JD(S) leaders are using his name, claiming to be his close associates. If they are really so close, why did they not make a memorial when they were in power”, Sumalatha asked.

“Ambarish was treated badly by the Congress in the last two years and I am witness to that. Hence, he threw out the B-form after deciding not to contest the election  in 2018. Ambareesh had such self-esteem”, she lashed out at the Congress leaders for insulting Ambarish.
