DAVANAGERE: A woman and her son have been arrested for murdering her husband as he used to come home drunk daily and assault her. The victim, Shivappa (40), was brutally murdered by crushing his head with a stone at Chikkabidare village in Harihar taluk.
Shivappa earned a living by doing labour work. On June 22, he was brutally murdered at his house in Chikkabidare village. The news that someone had killed him by dropping a stone on his head had spread like wildfire across the entire village. On learning about the matter, the Harihar Rural police arrived at the spot, registered a case. a forensic team, fingerprint experts and a dog squad conducted an inspection and collected evidence.
The investigation revealed that Shivappa was murdered by his wife Savitramma, to whom he had been married for many years. It is said that she took her son’s help to move her husband’s body. The police have arrested wife Savitramma and son Hanumegowda and handed them over to judicial custody.
Though husband Shivappa and wife Savitri had been married for several years, quarrels over trivial reasons had been ongoing in their marital life. Shivappa used to come home drunk daily and fight, suspecting her character. On that day, he came drunk in the afternoon itself and quarrelled with his wife when no one else was at home. Shivappa fell asleep in a drunken state. At that time, to get rid of his torment, Savitramma killed Shivappa by dropping a stone on his head, Police Superintendent Shekar HT told the media.
Later, her son Hanumegowda, who returned from college, was shocked to see it. Then, as night fell, the two together carried the body out of the house, dumped it in the backyard, and tried to destroy evidence by washing off the blood stains in the kitchen. They tried to portray to people that someone had murdered her husband. Police, who suspected the two, got the son confess to the crime, the SP added.
