KALABURAGI: A POCSO case accused escaped from the Afzalpur police station lockup in Kalaburagi district on Tuesday night. Police immediately launched an search and arrested the escaped accused in Tellur village in Afzalpur while he was planning to flee to Maharashtra.
Following the incident, three police personnel who were on night duty at Afzalpur station — SHO Ravi, sentry Prashanth, and Shivanna — were suspended buy Kalaburagi SP Adduru Srinivasulu on charges of dereliction of duty.
A POCSO case was registered against an accused named Manjunath about a week ago. On Tuesday, the accused was arrested in Pune and brought to the station. But at night, when all the police staff at the station were in deep sleep, he escaped from the lockup and fled the station.
Manjunath was spotted on CCTV camera escaping and running away. Now, another FIR registered against Manjunath along with the POCSO case.
