SHILLONG (Meghalaya): Border Security Force (BSF) rescued 74 head of cattle allegedly being smuggled into Bangladesh through the International border in the East Khasi Hills district of the state, a BSF statement informed on Thursday.

The BSF Meghalaya Public Relations Officer in a statement further said that the seized cattle were handed over to the concerned police station for further necessary action.

“Based on specific information, special teams of the 4th & 193rd Battalion BSF carried out an operation in the bordering area of East Khasi Hills and managed to seize 74 cattle, being smuggled to Bangladesh from the International border,” the PRO statement added.

The operation was carried out on October 4.

The PRO stated that enhanced vigilance by the BSF in Meghalaya along the international border has resulted in the seizure of more than 2,500 cattle from different border areas of Meghalaya since January 2023, thwarting the efforts of smugglers.

The BSF in an earlier statement informed that enhanced vigilance by BSF on international borders has led to the seizure of more than 2000 cattle from different border areas of Meghalaya since January 2023.

Earlier in June, BSF said it had rescued 88 cattle in the same area. (ANI)
