MANDYA: The Mandya police solved the mystery of a young man’s brutal murder on his birthday, only July 6, with the help of a sniffer dog. The investigation revealed that his co-worker committed the crime by crushing his head with a stone as he did not give money for food.
The victim was carpenter Rakesh, a resident of Bandihole village in K R Pet taluk. The police have arrested Ambarish from the same village. Both the deceased Rakesh and the accused Ambarish used to work together as carpenters. On that day, both of them had gone to Mysuru for work. After finishing work, while returning to their village, it started raining, so both took shelter at the KRS bus stand, Police Superintendent Dr Shobha Rani said.
At the bus stand, Rakesh was lying there talking to his girlfriend on the phone. At that time, Ambarish that they reach their village quickly, but Rakesh didn’t come. Angered by this, and also that he didn’t give money for food, Ambarish picked up a stone and brutally killed Rakesh by hitting him on the head. After that, he boarded a bus and fled to Akkihebbalu village, the SP said.
After committing the murder and fleeing, the accused Ambarish tried to mislead the police during investigation by making up a false story. He tried to portray before police that two people from Rakesh’s girlfriend’s side came and killed him. Since only the deceased’s bike was found at the spot, the case was a challenge for the police to investigate.
The dog squad played a key role in tracing the accused. The dog went directly from the crime spot to the accused Ambarish. By identifying blood stains on Ambarish’s slippers and clothes, the dog squad accurately identified that he was the actual murderer. Immediately, officers and staff of KRS police station arrested the accused Ambarish, and handed him over to judicial custody, the SP said.
