BELAGAVI: A man who had posted a photo as his WhatsApp status with another man’s wife to shame them, was brutally murdered at Kallolli village of Mudalagi taluk. Later, the husband and wife surrendered to the police station.
The victim Ramesh Hanamant Bantroli hailed from Gujanatti village next to Kallolli. He and Bannappa, who committed the murder, had been friends for many years. Ramesh was also cultivating Bannappa’s field on sharing basis. But for the last two years, he had grown intimate with Banappa’s wife Lakshmi. During this time, both had taken some selfies.
The friendship between Ramesh and Lakshmi had turned into an illicit relationship for some years. They have taken many photos while they were friendly. But Ramesh used this photo to discredit Lakshmi and her husband Bannappa after a rift had developed in the relationship between Lakshmi and Ramesh.
Ramesh, who could not tolerate Lakshmi being distant, had posted the photo as status a week ago to expose the relationship between the two. Many people from Kallolli and Gujanatti villages had even seen this. This made Bannappa and Lakshmi extremely angry.
After a few days, Lakshmi contacted him and invited him to come home. When he came to the land he was sharecropping, they brutally attacked him with a sickle. Ramesh, who was severely injured in the attack with a sickle, died on the spot. Later the couple Banappa and Lakshmi both went to Ghataprabha police station and surrendered.
Immediately alerted Ghataprabha police went to the spot and conducted mahazar. Later, a case was filed at the Ghataprabha police station. The post-mortem examination of Ramesh was conducted in Gokak and body was handed over to family members. The couple Bannappa and Lakshmi have been sent to jail. Ramesh was is married and has two children.
