KARWAR: A man was dragged away by two crocodiles in the Kali river near the Eshwara temple on Kulagi Road in Dandeli on Thursday.

The victim Pitambari Das, a resident of Dandeli who hailed from Gujarat, had gone into the river for a swim. He had left his footwear and clothes on the river bank. Locals, who witnessed the incident, immediately informed the police and the Forest Department.

“He was in the water and people were telling him to come out. But he went swimming further into the water when he was dragged away by crocodiles”, said eyewitnesses.

The police and Forest Department staff have launched an operation to trace the body.
