MANDYA, HUBBALLI: Passengers of three state transport corporation buses were lucky to survive without any injuries when the drivers displayed presence of mind and brought the vehicles to a halt in three separate incidents. However, one motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries in one accident.
On Sunday, a KSRTC bus almost collided with a tipper that was emerging out of an underpass near TM Hosur Gate in Srirangapatna taluk. The speeding bus heading towards Mysuru was on the service road when the driver noticed the tipper and swerved hard to the left to prevent a collision.
In CCTV footage that is available, the tipper can be seen coming through an underpass and comes on to the service road even as the KSRTC bus is speeding in its direction. The bus driver immediately does a hard left turn to prevent the collision and the bus comes to a halt on a side road. Luckily, no one was injured in the incident.
At the same underpass on Monday morning, a motorcycle rider came through the underpass even as a KSRTC bus was speeding towards Mysuru. In CCTV footage, the mototcycle rider can be seen noticing the approaching bus and does a right turn while the bus swerves hard to the left. However, the bus hit the motorcycle before coming to a stop. The motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries in the incident.
In another incident, the driver of a NWKRTC bus plying between Shirahatti and Hubballi acted quickly and brought the bus to a halt on one side after the rear axle of the vehicle got cut while the bus was running.
The bus was carrying passengers from Malligawada, Mulugund, Chinchali and Koliwad. It is said that there were over 100 passengers, including school and college students, in the bus and that the axle may have broken due to the sheer weight.
The villagers of Koliwad felicitated the bus driver for preventing an accident and saving the lives of passengers.
