LPG tanker gets stuck at NH-4 underpass; traffic resumes after it was emptied, pulled out

The LPG tanker had got stuck at an underpass; (right) trucks lined up on side of the highway as traffic movement was restricted.

DHARWAD: Traffic on National Highway-4 was blocked for about 18 hours since Wednesday evening after a bullet tanker, carrying liquid petroleum gas (LPG), got stuck at an underpass near the high court here.

The LPG was emptied out from the stuck tanker into another tanker.

The police had blocked traffic as a precautionary measure after the tanker started leaking gas while trying to make it way through the underpass. Entry to the Belur industrial area was also restricted. As a result, connectivity towards Belagavi was cut off.

The stuck tanker was pulled out with the help of a crane after it was emptied out.

With traffic stopped, trucks had lined up on one side of the highway. On Thursday, the authorities of the oil marketing company got another empty tanker from Mangaluru and emptied the remaining LPG from the stuck tanker which was later pulled out with the help of a crane.

Traffic resumed on the highway towards Belagavi after a good 18 hours.

After a good 18 hours, traffic was resumed on the highway on Thursday. Though LPG had been leaking from the stuck tanker since Wednesday evening, fortunately, there was no untoward incident.
