BENGALURU: The Lokayukta police, who raided KR Puram tahsildar Ajith Rai on Wednesday on charges of possessing wealth in excess to his income, have arrested him on Thursday. The officials have been conducting searches at his house and office since Wednesday and seized a huge quantity of gold at his house.
The tahsildar did not respond properly to the Lokayukta police regarding the huge quantity of gold, cash and other documents found in the house during the raid. The Lokayukta officials had camped at Ajith Rai’s residence of Sahakara Nagar on Wednesday night and searched for the last 30 hours.
The tahsildar has four Mahindra Thar SUVs, four Toyota Fortuner SUVs, three Royal Enfield motorcycles, one Toyota Land Cruiser (worth Rs 2.5 crore) and a Mini Cooper car. All the vehicles have the same registration number, but he had no genuine answer for his unaccounted wealth. It is said that, he has property worth around Rs 150 crore.
The officials have raided 11 locations and found articles worth Rs 1.90 crore including cash of Rs 40 lakh. More than 100 acres of property records were found at his residence, not only in his name, but also in the names of associates and friends.
The Lokayukta police have sought bank statements and have issued a letter to three bank to freeze three accounts. The officials found property deed for 98 acres (property worth Rs 300 crore) of land near Doddaballapur and another land deed of 30 acres near Kallur in Bengaluru. Another interesting fact is that Ajith Rai was preparing to open a horse riding school.
The Lokayukta police will produce him before a judge on Friday and are likely take him back into their custody for further inquiry.
