MYSURU: Residents of RBI Layout near Metagalli in the city are living in fear after some leopards were spotted in the vicinity. Two traps have been placed by the Forest Department, but none of the leopards have been snared yet.

On Friday night, a leopard was spotted on a tree after some stray dogs started barking loudly. The leopard jumped down from the tree and tried to attack the dogs, but they managed to escape. The incident was recorded by some locals on their mobile phones.

A family of leopards is believed to have camped in the area for the last two weeks, causing panic among residents. Students are scared to go to school and people fear stepping out of their houses after dusk.

The leopards and their three cubs have been spotted on the premises of the Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran (P) Ltd and employees, their families and other residents are living in fear.

Traps have been placed to capture the leopards

The area is like a shrub forest, with tall grass and trees, and the leopards have been regularly preying on dogs.

The movement of the leopards has also been caught on CCTV cameras. The Kendriya Vidyalaya School on the campus has announced holiday for a week.

The Forest Department staff are combing the area, but to no avail. The leopards are usually being sighted at night, making the operation to capture them difficult.
