BENGALURU: Like every year, the annual flower show organised at Lalbagh will be held from January 18 to 28 as part of the Republic Day celebrations and all preparation are already on in full swing.
Dr Jagadish, Joint Director, Department of Horticulture, said this will be the 215th flower show organised at Lalbagh by the department. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is expected to inaugurate the flower show and the main theme this time will be 12th century philosopher Basavanna’s thoughts and principles which will be explored through floral depictions. Thus, important aspects of Basavanna and Vachana literature, including the Anubhava Mantapa and Aikya Mantapa, and idols of prominent 12th-century sharanas including Basavanna, Allamma Prabhu, Ambigara Chowdaiah, and other exhibits are being prepared.
“This time, around eight lakh flowers are being used for the flower show. The different orchids of Ooty and the Cymbidium orchids of Darjeeling are the main attractions this time. More than 85 types of flowers are used as every year and over 10-12 lakh people are expected to visit the fruit and flower show this year”, Jagadish added.
