Lakhs worth of gold and diamond jewellery, cash stolen from wedding venue

DHARWAD: Thieves made away with cash and jewellery worth over Rs 1 crore from a wedding venue on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday. Two youths walking out of the venue with the bag containing the cash and valuables was captured on CCTV camera.

The wedding was organised at a resort.

The wedding of Dr Sharanappa, son of Gangadharappa Pattanashetty, and Dr Pooja, daughter of Arunkumar Giriyapura, was organised at Then Ocean Pearl resort on Hubballi road on the outskirts of the city. The theft occurred when the wedding guests were being served lunch. One of the thieves seems to be a minor.

The thieves have made away with 800 gm of gold ornaments, diamond jewellery worth lakhs and cash of about Rs 50 lakh. However, the family members, in their complaint, mentioned only about Rs 35 lakh in cash. The Vidyagiri police have registered a case and taken up further investigation.
