BENGALURU: After GST was imposed on certain food items, now brace for a hike in prices of its Nandini brand of milk.

The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has proposed to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to hike the prices of milk by Rs 3 per litre.

Fifteen milk unions have written to the CM stating that the last time prices were hiked by Rs 2 was three years ago. Though requests were made earlier to increase the price, the government had not agreed, but a price hike is necessary now, they stated.

“We have appealed to the Chief Minister and we are hopeful that the government will respond positively. The additional Rs 3 we earn will be passed on to dairy farmers to help cover their costs”, reasoned B C Satish, Joint Director, KMF.

Milk is currently being sold at Rs 37 per litre and after the hike, it will cost Rs 40 per litre. In several other states, milk is sold at higher prices, but KMF is selling at lower prices, the Federation has argued.
