Kerala bank officer found dead in Mangaluru hotel swimming pool

MANGALURU : A bank officer was found dead in the swimming pool of the well-known Moti Mahal Hotel in the city. The deceased has been identified as Gopu R Nair. He was a resident of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala and an officer with Union Bank.

The bank officer came to Mangaluru on Sunday and checked in at Moti Mahal Hotel. Gopu R Nair, who left the hotel room around 4 am on Monday, was found dead in the swimming pool of the hotel.

Police commissioner Anupam Agarwal said “He is a bank employee and was in the town to attend a business conference. He checked into the hotel yesterday at around 11 am. At 4 PM. He went swimming and probably under the influence of alcohol, lost control and died while swimming. He was staying alone in the hotel. The body was discovered this morning by the hotel staff. The entire activity has been recorded on the hotel’s CCTV. An empty alcohol bottle has also been found in his room and seized.”

“A case has been registered at Pandeshwara police station in Unnatural Death Report (UDR) No 75/2023 of South PS and is being investigated accordingly,” he added.
