BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) garbage compactor trucks will now run on Compressed Natural Gas. The vehicles were launched from Bommanahalli zone on Tuesday.
The BBMP garbage vehicles in Bommanahalli zone have been converted from diesel to CNG. GAIL India has supported the project and set up CNG outlets at four places. The cost of converting a vehicle to CNG comes up to around Rs 4 lakh.
“We have converted diesel vehicles to CNG. It is both cost-effective and eco-friendly. I have already discussed with the BBMP commissioner about going green with all garbage vehicles. Using new technologies will help conserve our environment. GAIL has agreed to give Rs 50,000 worth of CNG gas for free. In my constituency, there are about 14 garbage vehicles and we have decided to convert all the vehicles to CNG in the coming days”, said Bommanahalli constituency MLA Satish Reddy.
