Hotels in Bengaluru mull raising prices as commodities get costlier

BENGALURU: With the prices of many commodities, especially commercial LPG cylinder, remaining on the higher side, hoteliers in Bengaluru are considering raising the prices of food items.

Apart from commercial LPG cylinders, prices of groceries, oil, vegetables, ghee and other items have also increased and citizens have expressed outrage over price hike of daily commodities.

The fortnightly revision of LPG cylinder prices by petroleum companies has also adversely affected the hotel industry. A delegation of the hoteliers’ association had met Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri last month and highlighted the economic burden on the industry. Hotel owners are hoping that the government will take a favourable decision and if there is no positive response, they plan to raise prices of food items.

Hoteliers say that they will be forced to increase prices due to rising cost.

A hotelier in Bengaluru said, “The rise in prices of every commodity has hit us hard. During the summer season, the prices of vegetables and grains have increased. Most importantly, there is shortage of milk and ghee”.

“We have to see the interest of customers. We have requested the government and a delegation of hoteliers also met the Union Minister and presented a memorandum. If the government does not rein in prices of commodities, we will have to think about increasing prices of food items”, he added.
