CHIKKAMAGALUR, KARWAR: With the weekend and the New Year’s Eve coming up, people are making a beeline to popular tourist destinations, leading to overcrowding and traffic jams.
On Friday alone, more than 1,800 vehicles including cars, two-wheelers and passenger vans, had lined up at Mullayyanagiri in Chikkamagalur district, leading to a traffic jam for more than an hour. While the tourists faced difficulties, the police had a tough time clearing the traffic.
In Karwar district too, hordes of tourists are arriving at Murudeshwar, Gokarna and other beach towns, leading to traffic piling up on National Highway-66 near Honnavar.
On Saturday, traffic had piled up for about 1 km from Honnavar-Sagar road up to the Honnavar bus station. Pilgrim towns and beaches are also seeing lakhs of tourists.
