RAMANAGARA, DAVANAGERE: Election officials have seized 30 kg of gold and 10 kg of silver ornaments, all worth over Rs 18 crore, at the Hejjala checkpost in Ramanagara district on Friday. Since there were no proper documents, the ornaments were seized.
The vehicle, belonging to a cash management firm, was on its way from Bengaluru to Mysuru and was carrying gold and silver belonging to Malabar Gold and Diamonds.
Tax officials, who visited the spot, also found discrepancies in the GST billing. The transporters were told to produce proper documents and then get the gold and silver released.
A huge quantity of gold and diamonds, worth Rs 12.5 crore, were seized by the static surveillance team at the Lokikere checkpost in Davanagere North Assembly constituency on Thursday night.
The gold and diamond ornaments, addressed to different jewellery stores, were being transported without any proper documents. While there were a few old bills, the the transporters could not provide adequate details.
Following this, the team of election officials Lokesh, Renuka, Commercial Taxes deputy commissoner Manjunath and others seized the gold and diamond ornaments.
