CHIKKAMAGALURU: Former MLA Y S V Datta, who contested the just-concluded Assembly polls on a JD(S) ticket from Kadur constituency, has decided to take out a padayatra to atone for his mistakes and to do a self-assessment.

Prior to the election, Datta had announced that this will be his last. In a letter, he said that he is still firm on his statement and will henceforth be involved in organising the party. “The people of Kadur have played an important role in my political career and neither me nor my family can forget this constituency”, he wrote.

“In return for the love of the people of Kadur, I will be with them until my last breath and will become the soil of this earth”, he said and informed the people of Kadur about his next step.

In the letter, he stated, “I made a lot of mistakes and decided to atone for them” People have punished me for many mistakes. I am indebted to the people of Kadur for their love. On my birthday on June 24, I will start a padayatra and go to every village to apologise for my mistakes. I will stay in the villages during the yathra. This resolution is not taken for any election purpose, just for introspection”, he said.

Some fans of Datta requested him to reconsider his decision. But Datta said he has already made up his mind. “As long as I e can, I will live as one among all the people in this town”, he said.
