KARWAR: A boat that had gone for fishing was submerged in the sea estuary due to the force of silt and waves. Local fishermen in another boat rescued the four men on board the sinking boat. The incident took place at Tadadi port in the Gokarna area of Kumta taluk, Uttara Kannada district.

The boat named ‘Lakshmi Krupa’, belongs to Surendra Harikanthra. On Tuesday, it had left from Tadadi port in Gokarna for fishing. But a short distance away, it got stuck in the silt-filled estuary and was damaged at the bottom due to the impact of waves and sank. Due to the sinking of the boat, the owner suffered a loss of about Rs 20 lakh.
Two days ago, a boat named ‘Shri Devi’ had sunk in the same spot.Due to the silt in the Tadadi estuary, boats are repeatedly sinking at this very spot. Two boats have sunk within a single week.
