BENGALURU: The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce will form a Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) committee similar to the Hema Committee in the film industry to ensure safety of women.

A meeting was chaired by Rockline Venkatesh at the KFCC office on Monday after Karnataka State Commission for Women chairperson Dr Nagalakshmi Chowdhary had written to the chamber. Meanwhile, KFCC president Suresh and other artists were present.

After the meeting, Nagalakshmi said that parents should be able to send their daughters to the film industry without fear. She questioned whether the film industry is safe for women. She also mentioned that a survey will be conducted to ensure women’s safety in the industry. The committee will be formed after another meeting, which will be a collective decision of 24 associations.

The committee will be formed as per the law, and will investigate and take action on complaints received. The meeting discussed 17 issues regarding actresses and their safety, and facilities to be provided to them. The committee will have the approval of the government and if a complaint is received, an investigation will be conducted and action will be taken, Nagalakshmi said.
