Father-son duo, out to pluck lotuses for festival, drown in lake

CHIKKABALLAPUR: A father-son duo, who had gone to pluck lotus flowers from a lake for the upcoming Varamahalakshmi festival, died after they drowned in the water on Wednesday evening.

Puttaraju (42) and his son Keshav (14), residents of Shantinagar in Doddaballapur, had gone to the Bhoochanahalli lake to pluck lotuses and sell them for the upcoming festival.

A mobile phone and their footwear were found near the lake bund and another flower seller who went to the lake grew suspicious that they may have drowned.

The Fire and Emergency Services personnel conducted a search today morning and fished out the bodies. A case has been registered at the Doddabelavangala police station.
