Endowment dept to come up with guidelines in light of Ayodhya temple donation theft case

BENGALURU: Following the Ayodhya Ram Temple donation theft case, the state government has got into the act to prevent any such instance. Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has already directed that CCTV cameras be installed in temples coming under the Muzrai department. In the wake of this, the Endowment Department has also begun making preparations.

The Endowment Department is now set to release guidelines for temples. The department has already prepared the guidelines and submitted a report to the minister concerned. The guidelines regarding hundi security, temple premises, and CCTV installation are likely to be issued soon.

What the guidelines for Muzarai Department temples could include:

  • Only one hundi should be placed for the entire temple.
  • Hundis should not be placed inside the temple, outside, or in various parts of the temple premises.
  • During hundi counting, it will be mandatory for taluk-level officials to visit and inspect.
  • CCTV installation will be mandatory at places where devotees donate money to the hundi.
  • Hundi counting must be done at a single designated place in the temple, and CCTV coverage must be there.
  • Promote online payment options at temples.
  • Temple CCTVs should be monitored by the police.
  • The district deputy commissioners should also monitor them.
