RAMANAGAR: A flying squad on Wednesday seized bundles of sarees kept in a godown following allegations that Congress MLAs had kept them there to distribute among voters.

BJP and JDS workers caught a vehicle with sarees parked near a private godown area on Doddi Road in Dyavarasegowda, Ramanagara and handed it over to the police.

The election officials seized more than 10,000 sarees worth Rs 14 lakhs. JD(S) party workers have alleged that the Congress brought the sarees in a vehicle and stored them in a private godown to distribute to the voters.

A close aide of MLA Iqbal Hussain had allegedly distributed sarees in two vehicles. The JD(S) workers are now demanding a fair investigation in this regard.

Local election staff, including DySP Dinakara Shetty, Ramanagara police station PSI Akash, visited the spot.

The police verified the documents including the receipts related to the sarees which were stored at the godown. Later, some Congress workers who came to the spot said that this has nothing to do with Congress. It is not right to accuse Congress for no reason. There is no sticker, party logo, or photo on the cover, they argued.

At this time, there was an argument between the JD(S) and Congress workers. The police intervened and brought the situation under control.

As the situation turned serious, Ramanagara Deputy Commissioner, Avinash Menon and Superintendent of Police Karthik Reddy visited the spot and conducted an inspection.
