Cyber crime cases can be registered at all police stations; DG&IGP ask cops to crack down on fake news

BENGALURU: With the government announcing that it will come down hard on fake news, Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) Alok Mohan has issued orders that cyber crime cases should be registered at all police stations along with the cyber crime police stations.

Earlier, cyber crime cases were registered only at the respective CEN police stations. Now, such complaints will be received at the law and order police stations too.

On Thursday, the DG&IGP held a review meeting at Bengaluru city police commissioner B Dayananda’s office wherein all senior officer, including the deputy commissioners of police of all divisions were present. The meeting discussed issues pertaining to inflammatory social media posts, communal comments among other issues.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Alok Mohan said, “I have instructed the officers to ensure law and order and to streamline traffic. The behaviour of police personnel with the public should be good and all complaints should be immediately attended to. All SP and DCP have been instructed to visit the police stations regularly”.

The DG&IGP also said he has issued strict directives to crack down on those spreading fake news and to keep a watch on social media posts.
