BENGALURU: Two months after the Congress government came to power, the State Women’s Commission has remained inactive without a chairperson.

There is no officer available to hear the grievances of women, even as hundreds of complaints come in every day, such as family disputes, violence against women, domestic violence and so on. Hundreds of women from across the state are coming with complaints related to violence, harassment and family disputes, but these have not been settled for several months.

The State Women’s Commission has been left headless after the previous chairperson Pramil Naidu’s term ended in May this year.

Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar said, “Pramila Naidu’s tenure ended in May. The heads of corporations, boards and commissions have not been appointed after the formation of the new government. Thus, the position on the Women’s Commission is also vacant. There are hundreds of complaints from different districts of the state, but none of the cases have been resolved. Several families come here with the hope of starting new lives, but are returning with disappointment. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was supposed to appoint a chairperson, but it has not been done so far. The government should also consider giving more power to the chairperson like pronouncing punishment. Only then, the Commission can work more efficiently”.
