BENGALURU: Hindu activist Chaitra Kundapur, who has been arrested by the CCB for allegedly cheating case a businessman of Rs 5.5 crore, has stashed away huge funds in banks, preliminary investigations have revealed. The CCB has arrested six people, including her associates and the car driver of godman Abhinava Halasree in connection with the case.

During investigation, the police found Chaitra Kundapur has a fixed deposit of Rs 1.08 crore, Rs 60 lakh savings deposit and Rs 40 lakh worth of gold in the name of her friend Srikanth Nayak at Sriram Cooperative Bank at Uppoor in Udupi. Her brother-in-law was a manager at the cooperative bank.

Chaitra’s friend Srikanth Nayak is constructing a house in Guddeyangadi after buying a plot. According to sources, about Rs 1 crore was spent on buying the land and constructing the house. Whether Srikanth Naik is building the house himself or Chaitra has invested in yet is yet to be established.

Police officials, who have already gone to Mangaluru, are conducting inspections at three places — the place where the businessman met Chaitra and where the conversation took place, and also where the money was received. The CCB police raided Narayan Guru Co-Operative Bank, businessman Govinda Babu Poojary’s office, and Kumara Krupa Guest House in Bengaluru, where the gang of fraudsters had allegedly met the businessman. The CCB police have also collected some documents related to the case.

Now that the CCB has intensified the investigation and is collecting more important information, more issues in the case are expected come to light.

The CCB police have added one more IPC Section 201 to the complaint filed at Bandepalya police station. During the investigation, it was found that Srikanth destroyed his and Chaitra’s mobile phones completely when an FIR was registered against them, which had information about their cheating and some conversations between them.

Meanwhile, the police are on the lookout for another absconding accused in the case, Abhinava Halasree. The CCB officials have searched godman’s house and math at Hirehadagali in Belagavi district and seized the CCTV DVR from his house and Math. Apart from this, the officials are also searching the houses of the relatives of Halasree. A team of officials visited Harapanahalli and Davanagere and inspected many places.

Halashree, who is the third accused in the case, has been missing for the past week and is absconding without any hint. Chaitra had told the media that names of big leaders will be revealed after Swamiji’s arrest when she was brought her to the CCB office from the women’s rehabilitation  centre. This statement also created huge curiosity about the case.
