DAVANAGERE: A borewell rig which was passing over a bridge collapsed after a part of the bridge caved in at Thippagondanahalli village in Channagiri taluk on Wednesday. Construction of the bridge was completed only a few months ago.
The construction of the bridge was taken up by the Minor Irrigation Department and locals had complained of substandard work. It is believed that the contractor who executed the work is close to tainted Channagiri MLA Madal Virupakshappa.
Following the incident involving the borewell rig, villagers are now demanding that strict action should be taken against the those responsible.
