BJP releases final list, Eshwarappa’s son denied ticket from Shivamogga

BENGALURU: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday night announced its final list of two candidates ahead of the last date for filing nomination April 20.

The BJP leadership has denied a ticket for Eshwarappa’s son K E Kantesh, while S N Channabasappa, who is the former deputy mayor of Shivamogga City Municipal Corporation chosen for the Shivamogga seat.

B V Nayak, a former member of Parliament, has been chosen as the candidate from Manvi. Nayak joined BJP only on Tuesday. There is speculation that he got the ticket due to pressure from Transport Minister B Sriramulu.

The BJP has completed the process of naming its candidates in four phases hours before the final day for filing of nomination for the 224 constituencies. It had announced 189 candidates in the first list, 23 names in the second list, 10 candidates in the third list and two candidates in fourth list.

Eshwarappa announced his retirement from electoral politics and was expecting his son to get a ticket. But now the high command has given him a big shock. With the final list, he BJP had given tickets for 72 fresh faces, 20 members of families including 12 women.
