BENGALURU: After a dry spell lasting more than three months, parts of Bengaluru received brief showers late on Saturday afternoon. Many said the showers lasted barely a few minutes.
Places like Circle Maramma temple, Sankey tank, Mehkri Circle, Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Indiranagar, Whitefield, IIMB, Billekahalli, Puttenahalli, BTM Layout, RR Nagar, Sarjapur Road experience light rain on Saturday after days of scorching heat.
Several other parts of the state too experienced rain during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday and also on Saturday morning. In Bidar, several major roads were flooded after heavy rain on Saturday morning, affecting traffic. Bhalki, Aurad, Basavakalyan, Humnabad and other places in the district witnessed rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Gadag witnessed rain for about an hour on Saturday while Ron, Gajendragarh, Shirahatti, Lakshmeshwar and Mundargi also received showers. In Kalaburagi district, a 10-year-old boy died after he was struck by lightning while returning home on a bullock cart in Narona village of Aland taluk. He was identified as Mahesh. Several other villages in the taluk also recorded heavy rain with two-wheelers being washed away.
Hubballi witnessed cloudy weather accompanied by rain for about 15 minutes on Saturday morning. Koppal, Gurugunta, Kotha and other places in Lingasugur taluk, and Sindhanur in Raichur district also recorded rain. Yadgir witnessed moderate rain for about two hours from 5 am today.
In south-interior Karnataka, several parts of Hassan district including Hassan city, Holenarsipur, Channarayapatna, Arasikere, Sakleshpur recorded rain accompanied by thunder and strong winds. Three houses were damaged at Biradahalli village in Sakleshpur taluk while power supply was snapped in Jannapura, Halasulige and Magadi villages since Friday night.
Parts of Dakshina Kannada district including Mangaluru city, Bantwal and Puttur, experienced light showers. A family had a narrow escape after their house was damaged in the rain at Shabari Nagar at Ripponpet in Hosanagar taluk of Shivamogga district. Some other parts of the district too recorded rain on Saturday. Udupi district experienced rain since Friday night into Saturday morning.
