BENGALURU: Some IT companies in Bengaluru are reportedly showing bias against Kannada-speaking employees and jobseekers and are rejecting Kannadiga candiates in favour of aspirants from other states.
A woman posted a video on social media claiming that if a candidate’s resume mentions Kannada, they are denied jobs. She also said that Bengaluru companies hire only a few Kannadigas and conduct campus interviews in other states where they pick candidates for lesser salaries. “Due to this we are not getting job opportunities”, she said and sought Chief Minister D K Shivakumar’s attention.
A video of a young woman alleging discrimination against Kannada speakers in the information technology (IT) sector has gone viral on social media, sparking concerns over local employment opportunities in Bengaluru.
In the video, the woman claims that IT companies give preference to Telugu and Tamil speakers while allegedly rejecting candidates whose resumes mention Kannada.
She also alleges that campus recruitment drives are not being conducted at colleges in Bengaluru, limiting job opportunities for local graduates.
In the video, the woman appeals to Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to intervene and address the issue.
She claims that companies are recruiting candidates from other states at lower salaries instead of providing adequate opportunities to local graduates.
“Campus interviews are not being conducted in Bengaluru colleges. They do not hire if Kannada is mentioned in the resume. They bring people from elsewhere for lower salaries. Because of this, we are not getting opportunities. Please provide a solution to this problem,” she says in the video.
The woman’s claims have brought renewed attention to concerns about employment opportunities for Karnataka’s graduates and the role of language in recruitment.
However, the allegations made in the viral video have not been independently verified.
Further information would be needed to establish whether the alleged hiring practices are occurring and whether language preferences are influencing recruitment decisions at specific companies.

Kannada activist Rupesh Rajanna expressed outrage against such companies saying they are insulting Kannada and Kannadigas by denying them jobs. “Many companies are targetting Kannadigas who are currently working”, he said and warned of serious agitation. Several distressed Kannada employees gave this information to him on his Instagram account, Rajanna said.
