BENGALURU: The animal husbandry department of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has started a survey of stray dogs Tuesday.

This survey is being done with the aim of controlling the number of stray dogs, preventing rabies, performing sterilisation surgeries and carrying out an anti-rabies vaccination programme. In 2019, there were 3.10 lakh stray dogs in the Palike limits.

The surveillance will be conducted in collaboration with the para-technical staff of the Veterinary Services Department, Bangalore Urban district. About 50 teams will conduct a 14-day survey covering an area of about 840 square kilometres.

Recently, a woman posted a photo and posters of her eight-month-old male missing dog and now she is searching for it. Swarnima, a resident of HBR Layout in Banasawadi near the ISKCON temple, pasted posters of her dog even as she was crying. She requested for information about the dog and announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for those who find it.

Swarnima is a pet lover and takes care of more than 500 canines. She also mentioned in the poster that the dog is an Indian breed with has a blue collar and a silver tag with ‘S’ written on it. “I don’t want to see him on the street. I am searching for him and have requested the public inform me if they find him anywhere. I did not get any hints about my pet as of today”, she said.
