Home Minister G Parameshwar conducted a review meeting with the police departments of four districts on Tuesday.

MANGALURU: On his first visit to the communally sensitive Dakshina Kannada district after becoming Home Minister, Dr G Parameshwar has assured that a new anti-communal wing will be established under the Mangaluru police commissionerate to control and prevent acts of moral policing.

Speaking to the media after holding a review meeting with the West Zone police officers in Mangaluru, he said, “The entire country believes that there are good people in the coastal region. But, along with that, it was also heard that there is no peace and no communal harmony here. When I was chairman of the manifesto committee I spoke to heads of 20 different organisations and they also urged to maintain peace here”.

“People are saying that there is some sort of a scary atmosphere in the coastal in these days. We will control this situation. Moral policing is rampant here. If we do not stop all this, the police department and the state will get a bad name. Strict action should be taken in order to prevent it”, he said.

To a question from media persons, the Home Minister said, “The government will give compensation to the families of Deepak Rao, Fazeel, Jalil, Masood and I have suggested that they produce the necessary documents. These bereaved families will get relief as soon as possible”.

“I have instructed the police to stop the drug mafia and to take stern action by August 15 by conducting rigorous drives. The police will take action against those creating unrest in the region”, he said and sought the cooperation of students and youths to join hands in building peace and harmony in Manguluru.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Alok Kumar, Western Zone IGP Chandragupta, Mangalore Police Commissioner Kuldeep Jain, Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Ryshyanth, Udupi Superintendent of Police Akshay, Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police Vishnuvardhan, Chikkamagaluru Superintendent of Police Uma Prashant and other senior police officers were present in the meeting.
