After spate of thefts, Belagavi residents arm themselves with sticks, patrol streets

Armed with sticks, residents of several localities are patrolling the streets on foot and on two-wheelers.

BELAGAVI: Fed up of the spate of thefts in some localities, residents of those areas have now started patrolling the streets themselves, armed with sticks and rods.

Residents are also patrolling the streets on two-wheelers.

In the last three days, 14 cases of theft have been reported in Parijata Nagar, Samrudhi Nagar, Sai Colony, Anand Nagar, Keshav Nagar, Vadgaon, Ambedkar Nagar, Kanakadasa Nagar and other areas and police suspect that it is the handiwork of one thief.

So far, cash and jewellery worth about Rs 30 lakh has been stolen in different cases and the culprit has been successful in evading the police. The police have now formed a special team under acting ACP Sadashiv Kattimani and have launched an operation to nab the thief.
