After cotton candy and gobi manchurian, health dept now plans to test panipuri and kabab

BENGALURU: After conducting tests on cotton candy and gobi manchurian, the Health Department now plans to get panipuri and kabab tested throught the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The report is expected by the monthend after checking whether any harmful ingredients are used, where they is prepared and if hygiene is maintained, based on which the department will take action.

A few days ago, the FSSAI had tested gobi manchurian and cotton candy and found them to be containing carcinogenic substances following which some artificial colouring agents were banned. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has also ordered that three types of colours should not be used for gobi. Following this, the FSSAI has decided to check the artificial colouring agents used and adulteration in kebabs and panipuri items.

Kababs and panipuri will be collected from major areas of Bengaluru, hotels and street vendors and sent to the lab where they will be checked for safety, hygiene, presence of chemicals and harmful elements. If there are carcinogenic and harmful elements in these too, action will be taken to impose a ban on the use of such elements.

Officials of the FSSAI informed Public TV that the test report will be out by the end of this month. There have also been many complaints from the public about lack of cleanliness and unhygenic preparation of kebabs and panipuri, they said.
