NEW DELHI: Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) president HD Deve Gowda has expressed his gratitude to PM Narendra Modi after the cabinet announced Rs 250-300 per quintal increase in the minimum support price (MSP) of copra at Rs 11,160-12,000 per quintal for the 2024 season and said that the decision by the Centre comes as a ‘relief to farmers’.

“The MSP for milling kopra (coconut) for the year 2024 will be higher than it was in 2023. It has been increased by Rs 300 per quintal. Ball kopra MSP has increased by Rs 250 per quintal. This cabinet decision comes as a relief to farmers. I thank the Prime Minister,” the former PM said.

Notably, the decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Last year, the government increased the minimum support price (MSP) of milling copra by Rs 270 per quintal and ball copra by Rs 750 per quintal.
The approval is based on recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) and views of major coconut-growing states.

“The MSP for Fair Average Quality of milling copra has been fixed at Rs 11,160 per quintal and for ball copra at Rs 12,000 per quintal for the 2024 season. This is an increase of Rs 300 per  for milling copra and Rs 250 per quintal for ball copra over the previous season,” a government statement said. (ANI)
