One dead, over 12 injured in bus accidents across Karnataka

The bus driver died in the accident while four passengers were injured.

TUMAKURU, KARWAR, RAICHUR: One person died and more than 12 passengers were injured in separate bus accidents in different parts of the state on Saturday.

The driver of a private sleeper bus, Mohammed Ibrahim (42), died while four passengers sustained injuries when it overturned after hitting a road divider near Anchepalya in Kunigal taluk around 4 am on Saturday. The bus was on its way from Mangaluru to Bengaluru.

It is said that the driver was speeding and the bus hit the divider when he tried to apply the brakes. The injured were treated at the government hospital in Kunigal and later shifted to Bengaluru. The Kunigal police have registered a case.

A tourist bus carrying 20 people from Bengaluru to Gokarna overturned at a curve near Balegadde near Huliyappanakatte in Honnavar taluk of Uttara Kannada district, leaving eight passengers injured, six of them seriously.

The driver lost control at the curve, resulting in the bus overturning. The injured passengers were shifted to a hospital in Udupi and the Honnavar police have registered a case.

In Lingasugur taluk of Raichur district, a KKRTC bus crashed into a roadside ditch when the driver tried to avoid a herd of sheep which suddenly cut across the road. Some of the passengers sustained minor injuries. The accident led to a traffic jam for about 5 km and Hutti traffic police later cleared the road for traffic.
