HASSAN: Motorists had to endure traffic jams stretching into hours after work on four-langing of the Bengaluru-Hassan-Mangaluru National Highway-75 was suddenly taken up on Tuesday night near Donigal. There were no warning signs or barricades, compounding the problem.
Hundreds of vehicles were stuck on the Shiradi Ghat road as construction material was dumped and equipment brought in at night without notice. Vehicle users vented their ire at the contractor for the mess.
On Wednesday morning too, school and college students faced inconvenience as vehicle moved slowly. At some places, people got off vehicles and covered some distance on foot.
After receiving information, MLA ‘Cement’ Manju visited the spot and took the contractor and NHAI officials to task over phone. He also threatened them of lodging a complaint with the police.
