Speeding goods vehicle kills three elephants near Palamaner

KOLAR: A speeding goods vehicle hit a herd of elephants, killing three of them, including a calf, near Palamaner in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh late on Wednesday night.

A herd of elephants was crossing the road near Jagamarla Cross on the national highway when the speeding good vehicle knocked some of them down, killing three. Other elephants in the herd managed to escape.

The autopsy was conducted in the presence of veterinarians and Forest Department officials. The region has seen recurring instances of elephants being hit by vehicles and the police and Forest Department officials are probing the case from all angles.
