BENGALURU: A scrap dealer from Cottonpet was handed over bundles of fake currency notes of Rs 500 face value in the guise of a hawala transaction. A complaint has been registered against the accused Bharat and Ramakant with the CCB police who are now on the lookout for the fraudsters.
Scrap dealer Karthik does business by sending scrap items to Delhi. Bharat, who had been observing Karthik’s business, was impressed by his work and started to talk to him.
Recently, Bharat told Kartik that he needed Rs 20 lakhs urgently in Delhi. He told Karthik that someone from his side will hand over Rs 20 lakh and sought his help to get Rs 20 lakh from someone Karthik knew in Delhi.
Accordingly, Karthik went to the designated spot near Chickpet Metro station to collect cash from Bharat’s aide Ramakant. The latter gave Karthik ten bundles of notes with only fake notes resembling Rs 500 notes. Only the first and last notes were real Rs 500 notes, while the rest were white printed paper resembling Rs 500 note.
Ramakant repeatedly called Kartik asking him to arrange the money in Delhi without opening the bundle. Kartik got suspicious and opened the bundle only to discover the fake notes. The accused Ramakanth immediately escaped from the scene.
According to police, several such cheating cases have been reported in four to five police stations across Bengaluru.
