BENGALURU: Following the recovery of a Redmi Android mobile phone from rape convict and former MP Prajwal Revanna’s barracks at the Parappana Agrahara central prison, the police have found a notebook in his cell with 40 phone numbers. On Friday morning DGP-Prisons Alok Kumar made a surprise visit to the jail as mobile phones are still being found inside.

Alok Kumar personally inspecting the barracks and took officials to task after a phone were found in Prajwal Revanna’s barrack. He also held a meeting with officials and pulled them up over phones, SIM cards, mobile chargers and pen drive got in. It is likely that more officials and staff could face the axe in the coming days.

Speaking after his visit, DGP Alok Kumar said, “I hadn’t come in a long time so I did a general visit now. I have visited all the barracks. As for the rest, the CCB is conducting the investigation into the mobiles.”

On the issue of action against officials, he said, “The inquiry is ongoing, we will inform after it is completed. On the Prajwal Revannna issue, he said, “The investigation is ongoing, you should ask the CCB about investigation matters. We are also not conducting the investigation. I had come only for a general visit. We have checked what problems exist in the different barracks.”

Meanwhile, the notebook found in Prajwal Revanna’s cell has his father H D Revanna’s name as ‘Shiva’ and his mother Bhavani Revanna’s name as ‘Parvati’. Apart from that, phone numbers of several close associates and unknown people have also been found.

After the mobile phone was found during a CCB raid under the mattress, Prajwal initially admitted that it was his phone. Later, when asked to unlock the mobile’s password, he said that it was not his. He then gave a statement saying he was using the phone to talk to family members, but did not reveal who brought the mobile in. Currently, the police have sent the mobile and pen drive to FSL.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that Prajwal Revanna used the mobile two years ago in September 2024. A video was recorded by a cellmate, but Prajwal Revanna had escaped multiple times during raids with the help of staff.

On the other hand, DIG Jinendra Khanagavi continued questioning of jail officials for the second day on Friday. On Thursday, the DIG questioned two warders, two jailers and one Assistant Superintendent. Video-recorded statements of everyone have been taken and it is likely that recommendation for sacking of more officials could be made for dereliction of duty.
